Wear Your Florals
This publication was created in response to the recent film premier of “It Ends With Us” which was written by Colleen Hoover and is about a woman confronting her own domestic abuse, which in England and Wales, approximately 2.1 million people aged 16 and over experienced in the year ending March 2023. However, in many promotional interviews for this film Blake Lively said snark comments and tried to get women to go watch the film by stating “Grab your friends and wear your florals”. Which, understandably made social media very angry and myself. As a woman I have had my own experiences and I think abuse of any kind is awful and not something you should be trying to get people to go and watch a film about if all you care about it the box office revenues.
So this is my response, in which I highlight statistics, real experiences with domestic abuse and also an interview from a close friend that has, herself gone through an abusive relationship and is comfortable sharing her experience. This publication inludes real life accounts of peoples personal experiences and so it may be triggering for some, but at the very back there are helplines and so if you are in need, or in doubt then please get in contact, if not with them then with someone you are comfortable with.
